With just under two minutes left in the game Columbia’s Kacie Johnson scored to give the Lions a 13-12 lead that they would hold onto. The loss snaps the Bobcats eight game winning streak.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just under six minutes into the game. But the Bobcats (9-5, 8-0 NEC) could never pull away from the Lions, as they tied the game almost a minute later.
The first half continued as a back and forth battle, with the Bobcats holding their largest lead of the half at 7-4 with ten and a half minutes to left. The teams entered halftime with the Bobcats leading by one, 7-6.
The second half continued very similar to the first with neither team being able to pull away from the other. The Lions took their first lead since the five minute mark of the first half when Brittany Shannon scored her second straight goal to give the Lions a 12-11 lead.
Just under two minutes later Chelsea Guerrera tied the game with a free position shot. But it would be the last time the Bobcats would score in the game as the Lions scored with just over two minutes left and the Bobcats couldn’t get anything with the final possession.
Lauren Matuszczak led the Bobcats with four goals and an assist, while Katie Latonick added a goal and three assists.
The Bobcats face Sacred Heart on Saturday for the NEC regular season title. Both teams are 8-0 in conference. The winner will host the conference tournament starting April 23.
