The Bobcats played two games in the first day of the Stony Brook Invitational, splitting them. The Bobcats lost 1-0 to Stony Brook and then beat Yale 2-1.
The Bobcats were held to one hit against Stony Brook, only 3 Bobcats reached base. Neither team amounted much of an offensive attack. Heather Schwartzburg held the Seahawks to just three hits while striking out 11.
The Seahawks wouldn’t score until the seventh inning. A leadoff double by Vicky Kavitsky set the Seahawks up. A sacrifice bunt moved her to third. With two outs Casey Jacobs singled to right to bring home the game winner.
In the second game, the Bobcats and Bulldogs needed to play extra innings. It took six innings before either team would strike and it was Yale who got the lead first. The Bulldogs’ Mariclaire Rebman ripped a single to right, scoring Katie Yanagisawa.
The Bobcats responded quickly in the bottom of the inning. Emily Bellush blasted her second homerun of the season. In the ninth inning the Bobcats scored the game winner on a RBI single by Kim Le Bel.
Bellush also starred on the mound for the Bobcats, allowing only five hits and one walk while pitching the complete game.
