One run in the top of the first inning cost the Bobcats as they fell to Fairfield 1-0 Thursday. Alex Alba struck out a career high eight for the Bobcats.
Alba gave up the lone run of the game in first. The Stags leadoff hitter reached on an error and then promptly stole second. A groundout advanced her to third and scored on an infield single.
The Bobcats (18-19) were threatening all day but could never scratch across the tying runs. The Bobcats had runners on in every inning except for two but could never get anything across.
Alba struck out eight over six innings and allowed only four hits. Heather Schwartzburg came on in relief in the seventh and struck out one batter and allowed one hit.
The Bobcats return to NEC action this weekend when they travel to Monmouth and Mount St. Mary’s.
