A day after struggling against Robert Morris, Heather Schwartzburg returned to the mound and dominated. She struck out twelve St. Francis batters en route to winning both game of the double header.
In the first game, the Red Flash jumped to an early 4-1 lead but the Bobcats just chipped away. The Bobcats (18-17, 5-3 NEC) cut the lead to one in the third when Alex Alba and Lauren Salgado scored on back-to-back singles.
Kelly Wall gave the Bobcats the win in game one when she cranked a two run home run to center to give the Bobcats a 5-4 win.
Emily Bellush started for the Bobcats giving up four runs over four innings before giving way to Schwartzburg who struck out six over three innings.
In game two, the Bobcats and Red Flash were engaged in a pitcher’s duel until the sixth. In the sixth the Bobcats had runners at first and third with one out when they put a double steal in play. Salgado took off from first. When the ball left the catcher’s hand Angela Casella broke for home from third. The throw home from the shortstop did not arrive in time to get Casella and sailed to the backstop, allowing Salgado to scamper home from second.
The double steal gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. It was enough for Schwartzburg. Schwartzburg pitched the complete game, allowing just four hits and struck out six.
