For only the second time in the last seven conference games, the Bobcats lost. The Bobcats were unable to solve Monmouth pitching in the 9-3 loss.
For the first three innings of the game, it was a pitcher’s duel between Quinnipiac’s Mike Oskandy and the Hawks’ Nick Myers. Oskandy held the Hawks hitless while the Bobcats (10-27, 9-8 NEC) managed only two hits.
But the wheels came off for Oskandy in the fourth. The Hawks scored twice in the inning and then tacked on two more in the fifth and one more in sixth to build a 5-0 lead after six.
But the Bobcats came back, scoring three times in the seventh to cut the lead to two. After the first two batters were retired, Chris Migani and Gabe Guerino reached base. Kyle Nisson followed with a double to left to bring in Migani and put runners at second and third. Ryan Ullrich followed with a two run single to right.
But that would be as close as the Bobcats would get as the Hawks added four more in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
The Bobcats and Hawks continue the series on Saturday.
